    Kavita Nayar (b. 1957) received her BFA at Santiniketan, West Bengal, and her MFA from the College of Art, New Delhi. She was awarded a French Government scholarship to work in lithography and etching at Cité Internationale des Arts and École des Beaux-Arts (1985-86), trained under a master printer in serigraphy in Luxembourg on a Creative Fund fellowship (1990), and was a senior fellow at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, with the Charles Wallace India Trust fellowship (1996).

    Her work has been shown at major international exhibitions including the International Triennale of Prints in Grenchen, Switzerland; the Print Biennale in Japan; the International Prints Exhibition in Poland; the Print Biennale of Győr, Hungary; and the 1st Print Biennale of Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi. She has held solo shows in India and abroad, including at Otterbein University, Ohio; Bose Pacia Modern, New York; Oxford University; and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius.

    Kavita is a recipient of the senior and junior fellowships from the Ministry of Culture, India, and was awarded an Honourable Mention at the 44th National Exhibition by Lalit Kala Akademi in 2001. She has taught as visiting faculty at the College of Art, New Delhi, NIFT, and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius, and as visiting professor at the Department of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia University.

    Her works are held in museum collections across India, France, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Sweden, and the United States, as well as in Panchvati Hall at the Prime Minister’s House, New Delhi. She has served as vice president of the Indian Printmakers’ Guild and is a Trustee of the Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust. She lives and works in New Delhi.
