Diganta Gain
Diganta Gain (b. 1998) is a contemporary Indian visual artist whose mixed-media practice seamlessly bridges the vast, scientific imagery of the cosmos with intimate human emotions and agrarian narratives. Born and raised in Kolkata, he developed a fascination with the boundless scale of the universe, using the infinite architecture of space as a primary metaphor to conceptualize personal and societal landscapes. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship (2021) and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in painting from Rabindra Bharati University (2023).
Central to Gain’s creative philosophy is the deliberate choice to filter raw human experiences through photographic representations of cosmic variations. He brings these complex maps to life on Fabriano paper, utilizing a versatile technical repertoire that features fluid watercolors, charcoal, acrylics, and gold leaf gilding. A defining element of his texture is the integration of meticulous, tactile hand-stitching. Notably, his portfolio also features deeply personal, posthumous collaborative pieces where he integrates pointillism and delicate color washes over live monochrome sketches left behind by his late father.
Now working between the Delhi-NCR and Kolkata regions, Gain is recognized as a compelling voice in the emerging South Asian abstract art scene. He has quickly established a prominent exhibition record, showcasing his work at premier platforms including the India Art Fair, the State Academy Exhibition at the ICCR in Kolkata, the Birla Annual Exhibition, and digital contemporary platforms like Terrain.Art.
