Vanita Gupta
Vanita Gupta’s artistic practice explores minimal, timeless, and compelling forms. She challenges conventional definitions of art by blending various genres and pictorial languages. Vanita studied fine arts in 1992 from LS Raheja
school of Arts.
Vanita’s career includes numerous prestigious awards and opportunities. In 2014, she received the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant and was also an artist-in-residence at the Vermont Studio Centre in the USA. From 2014 to
2015, she was awarded the J.D. 3rd Rockefeller Fellowship Grant by the Asian Cultural Council in New York. In 2015 she was selected at an artist-in-residence at “Residency Unlimited” in New York. Her video work, “The Balloon Trilogy:
Liberation,” was featured at the 16th International Media Art WRO Biennale in Poland in 2015. Earlier in her career, she was honored with the Raza Award for excellence in art in 2008 and had her video works selected by the Videoholica
International Video Art Festival in Bulgaria in 2012.
In 2008, she had solo show at Red Church Street Gallery in London, presented by Pundole Art Gallery and Rob Dean Art. She has had 5 solos exhibitions with Pundole art Gallery since 2004 including the latest in 2019. In 2017 a special
project at the India Art Fair in Delhi, was presented by Art Heritage Gallery in Delhi. In 2020, her sculpture/video/performance was exhibited at Waterman’s
Gallery in London. Vanita recently created the 30-foot sculpture “Silhouette in Flight” for India’s first sculpture park at Art Ichol in Maihar.
Vanita is selected for a residency at Sculpture space, Utica, New york 2025. Born and raised in Mumbai, Vanita Gupta now lives and works between Mumbai and Bangalore.
