Shubham Kumar, an artist from Gaya, Bihar, currently lives and works in Vadodara. His practice is rooted in familial and regional introspection, addressing the politics of land, construction, and violence in Murera and Gaya. Using metaphors drawn from his native landscape, Kumar navigates the tension between perception and representation through parafictions, painting, image transfer, installations, and software interfaces. He has exhibited widely, with shows at Bikaner House, Stir Gallery, Latitude 28, Art Incept, Kochi Students’ Biennale, CIMA Awards, and Priyasri Art Gallery, among others. His recognitions include the Tacita Dean Award (2022), Khoj Support Grant (2020), Nasreen Mohamedi Award (2018), and JJ School of Art Printmaking Award (2014). Kumar has also participated in residencies and workshops with Khoj, FICA, 1 Shanthiroad, and Somaiya Vidyavihar, continually expanding his inquiry into image-making and socio-political narratives.
