Mallikarjun S Katke
Mallikarjun S. Katke’s practice emerges from an intuitive, deeply internal process where memory, imagination, and lived experience converge. He describes his life as unfolding simultaneously in the past, present, and future—an ongoing dialogue that shapes his identity and fuels his creative impulse. His paintings often begin without a predetermined theme; instead, they arise from a spontaneous emotional state that guides him toward the surface.
As textures develop and forms begin to appear, the work gradually reveals its own direction. For Katke, this moment marks the true beginning of the artwork’s journey—a point where the surface and his evolving thought process meet. Each painting becomes a layered record of exploration, movement, and contemplation.
Grounded in strong academic training with a BFA and MFA in Painting from MMK College of Visual Art, Gulbarga University, Katke has consistently engaged with India’s contemporary art scene. His practice spans solo exhibitions, numerous national art competitions, and diverse group shows across major cities. He is also an active member of Po10tial, contributing to collaborative and experimental artist-led initiatives.
Katke’s work reflects a sensitive balance between intuition and structure, revealing a world shaped by dreams, introspection, and the textures of everyday life. His canvases are not just visual compositions—they are extensions of his imaginative landscape, inviting viewers to experience the subtle interplay between thought and material.
