Sweeta Rai
Sweeta Rai (b. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India) is a Visual Artist based out of Kaladham, Uttar Pradesh, India. She completed her Master of Fine Art from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai (2011) and Bachelor of Fine Art from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi (2008).
Her work presents a vibrant world of artistry where colors meet emotions. Sweeta merges the tangible with the ethereal, creating a realm of imagination where every stroke tells a story. Her artistic journey began with a figurative style and gradually transitioned into abstraction. Through experimentation with bold colors, dynamic strokes, and a minimalist use of figures, she constructs layered narratives rooted in personal experiences. Her canvases reflect a synthesis of the rustic rural fervor of Varanasi and the complexities, struggles, and energy of urban India. The fusion of figurative and abstract elements in her compositions challenges perception and invites introspection. Her practice traverses between realism and abstraction, offering viewers portals into emotional, symbolic, and imaginative landscapes.
Sweeta Rai has been the recipient of several prestigious recognitions including the First Award in Painting at the 96th Annual All India Art Exhibition by the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (2023), Gold Medal Award by The Art Society of India (2020), and the Junior Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture (2018). She has exhibited widely across India in solo and group exhibitions.
